Museum and Visitor Services Associate

Position Summary:

The Journey Museum hosts group tours, field trips, cultural and community events, and rotating seasonal exhibits.

This position is a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in The Journey Museum, Black Hills history and culture, Geology, Anthropology, Archaeology who enjoys making people feel welcome and sharing the excitement of knowledge.

We are seeking a team player who possesses a willingness and interest in learning new things and celebrating the rich history, stories, and cultures of the Black Hills region.

Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

· Assists all visitors in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner to answer questions and resolve requests in person, on the phone or through email.

· Communicates with other staff, immediate supervisor and museum partners as to the working order of the museum and helps ensure the facility is operationally sound on a day-to-day basis.

· Accurately handles all transactions and end of day closeouts.

· Maintain a clean and safe environment for visitors, volunteers, and staff. Duties include but are not limited to cleaning restrooms, public areas and grounds as needed and assigned.

· Maintain a visually appealing gift store, including restocking as needed and informing the Museum Services Manager of low stock, missing tags, or other needed items.

· Takes a proactive approach in learning about products and featured artists/vendors.

· Takes a proactive with knowing about museum admissions, memberships, current and upcoming programs, events, and exhibits.

· Leads and /or assists with tours and educational experiences both in museum and off-site.

· Assists with set up, tear down of events and rental spaces.

· Responsible for proper opening and closing of the museum.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

· Must be coachable and interested in learning new skills and to develop a multitude of solutions to a given challenge.

· Cheerful, professional demeanour is essential.

· Impeccable attention to detail and strong personal work ethic and intuitiveness to confidentiality.

· Excellent communication skills (oral and written), professional email, and phone etiquette.

· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Physical Requirements:

This job operates primarily in an office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment. The employee is required to talk, hear, sit, stand, squat, and kneel as well as, walk, use hands to finger, and reach with hands, and arms. The employee may occasionally need to lift 50+ pounds.

Working Hours:

Day, evening, and weekend coverage is part of the position. Hours can be flexible in order to meet the needs of the role.
