Turtle Soup | A New Face for Brachiosaurus, and the Important Role of Private Collections to the Science of Paleontology - Peter Larson

  • Journey Museum 222 New York Street Rapid City, SD, 57701 United States (map)

In 2017, John Babiarz, a private collector from Mesa, Arizona, discovered what is now the most complete Brachiosaurus skull yet collected. This skull has been prepared and will soon be described. This description is possible because of new techniques that allow us as scientists to describe and reposit information in public institutions, while the original fossil can remain in private collections.

Join renowned director of the Black Hills Institute, Peter Larson, as he takes a deep dive into this special fossil and its future as well as the history and contributions of other private collectors.
