Join us for an exploration of Black Hills geology, where we'll delve into the fascinating landscape of the region and shed some light on the nagging questions you have about how it got here and what makes it so special.
The Black Hills are a unique geological feature, with rock formations that span hundreds of millions of years.
We will examine key landforms such as the dramatic hogback, a steep ridge formed by tilted sedimentary layers; the Red Valley, which showcases striking red-colored rock formations; the limestone plateau, home to extensive limestone deposits that hold clues to ancient marine environments; the Minnelusa foothills, where you’ll find rock layers rich in fossilized evidence of past life; and the central core, the ancient granite heart of the Hills that dates back over 1.7 billion years.
By the end of this workshop, you'll not only be able to identify these formations in the field but also understand their geological history and age, deepening your appreciation for the forces that shaped this remarkable landscape.
This workshop is designed for the novice geological enthusiast interested in deepening their understanding of the local region and getting out in the Hills to go rock and mineral hunting.
Workshop takes place on Thursday, December 12th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Registration is $20 for members and $30 for non-members.
Space is limited, so if you want to save a spot for yourself and a friend, call (605)394-6923 or fill out the form below and get on the list today!
